Some men, when they go through the mid life crisis, get a sports car or a girlfriend. David had already had the sports car and there was no way Penny was letting him get a girlfriend, so we quit our jobs, sold our house and ran away from home (not exactly in that order).

This is us!

David & Penny Wendel,
Daytona Beach FL, January 2011
We're David & Penny Wendel from North Missouri. We started RVing full time in December of 2008.
Our big challenge has been finding enjoyable work with decent pay. Our first job was working at the Tower Fall Location at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming and Montana where David was manager of the grocery section of the General Store and Penny cooked meals for the YNP employees. From there we traveled to Coral Springs, Florida (North of Miami) where we managed a Christmas Tree Lot. We did that in 2009 and 2010 for Hart-T-Tree Farms. We worked as Campground Hosts at Collier Seminole State Park in Naples, Florida and later David worked for Southern Cross, surveying underground gas lines for leaks. For Southern Cross we traveled to several different locations in Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee. In March of 2011 we accepted a job working at an RV Park in West Texas until we began gate guarding for Timekeepers in South Texas in July of 2011. We switched over to Gate Guard Services in February of 2012.
David grew up in Iowa and Missouri. His employment background includes ten years managing hotels in Georgia and Missouri, ten years in the United States Air Force at Offutt A.F.B., Nebraska, Moody A.F.B., Georgia, and R.A.F. Upper Heyford, England, seven years in the pork industry in North Missouri, along with other miscellaneous jobs.
Penny was an army brat and spent most of her youth at various military bases in the U.S. and in the Panama Canal Zone. Penny's background involves working as a paralegal in various law offices in Georgia and Missouri where she worked for Legal Aid for the Elderly and for various lawyers, a prosecuting attorney and several judges and members of State Congress. But the best and most rewarding was working with the elderly and disabled.
